Behind The Make N Take: Embossed Backgrounds

Thanks for joining us on the blog today. We're highlighting the Peace. Happiness. Joy make n take which recently got lots of attention. Due to the numerous questions asking how to create the unique background, we threw together a quick video of the card process for today's BEHIND THE MAKE N TAKE.

The background is both dry and heat embossed. Below the video you'll see step-by-step instructions and product descriptions to help you best recreate this technique!

We started with a scored A2 card with a white layering swatch on the inside and outside of card. To create the background...

1. Use an embossing folder to create a design on a piece of colored cardstock. For this step, you'll see we used a Spellbinders Reversible Embossing Folder. The specific style, Holiday Magic, is a unique two-sided folder.
2. After running the cardstock and folder through a die cutting machine, add VersaMark Watermark to the raised design. By lightly running the ink pad over the design, it should only stick to the raised parts. You can use any type of pigment or embossing ink. VersaMark Watermark is almost clear in design, making it our favorite for heat embossing.

Another option is to use the VersaMark Watermark Pen to draw over the design.

3. Next sprinkle embossing powder of your choice over the design. From the card image, you'll see that the embossing ink didn't hit every part of the design. We actually love the distressed look. Using Ranger Distress Embossing Powders, which have a matte finish, will add to that vintage feel. We used used Faded Jeans Distress Embossing Powder here. Make sure to use a heat tool to cure the powder.

4. You now have your super embossed background! Add it to your card and decorate as desired.

Pocket Scrapbooking: Embark on Adventures

Thanks for joining us today on the blog where we have a spread jam packed with pocket scrapbooking inspiration!

If you're new to the pocket scrapbooking trend, let us show you how it's done! The words 'pocket scrapbooking' describe exactly what it is. The page protectors, available in a variety of sizes and styles, are divided into pockets that allow you to easily slip in photos and journaling cards.

Today's spread uses pocket page protectors from American Crafts and journaling cards from We R Memory Keepers' Chalkboard Collection. The entire spread documents one event - A day of trail riding with family. Rather than creating many different 12x12 layouts, each card becomes it's own "page" with its own title and journaling. Because the same color combo was used throughout, the individual pockets are unified.

Here's a close up of the right side of the page. A typewriter was used to create all the journaling. We love handwriting, but why not dig out that old machine and give it a try?! Some of the journaing was typed directly onto the cards, while others were typed onto white cardstock and cut into strips.

We love the window cards included in this kit from WRMK. It makes it so easy to include a photo and some journaling. Here the journaling was kept simple and to the point. But oh so funny too!

Here's a look at the right side of the spread. The title card is so fun! We cut a few hearts and arrows from journaling cards in the collection to create our own embellishments.

We used a few sticker alphas too! Titling made easy. We pulled out our sewing machine to add an additional element to the spread too!

What do you think of using sewing machines and typewriters in your paper crafts? Too much work or lots of fun?

Quick & Easy DIY Christmas Cards

If you caught Lori on Fox 11 News Sunday morning, you saw her create super simple Christmas cards (watch the segments here). We've gotten lots of questions about the cards, so we're sharing them here on the blog too! These cards are perfect for any skill level and can be created in an afternoon!

Card One: Happy Winter with Patterned Paper

This card is as quick and easy as they get! A piece of patterned paper was added to the card front. To finish it up, Lori stamped a sentiment onto cream cardstock and adhered it to the card with 3D foam squares.

Card Two: Merry Christmas with a Stamped Background

At Creations Galore, we love background stamps. For this card, Lori stamped a music themed background stamp onto cream cardstock. She added a second layer of gold and placed them onto the card front. Just like the previous card, a sentiment was stamped onto cardstock and attached to the card with permanent adhesive. Two extra steps in this card, but still quick and easy!

Card Three: Joyeux Noel with an Embossing Folder & Ink

This last card is the hardest of the three, but it's still a beginner card that can be created in no time at all! Lori placed the blue cardstock into an embossing folder and ran it through the Evolution tool to create the raised snowflake images. To highlight the images, she ran a blue ink lightly over embossed design. This was added with a white layer to the front of the card. And again, just like the two previous cards, a stamped sentiment on white cardstock was adhered to the front too!

All the supplies and tools to create these three cards can be found at Creations Galore. If you're new to paper crafting, allow us to help you design your own Christmas cards. We can walk you through the process, help you pick out stamps and paper, and get you on your way to personalized handmade greetings. You can even use our tools, such as stamps, embossing folders, and paper cutters, keeping this project affordable! It's only $2.50 per hour or $5 for the full day!

Don't forget, every day until Christmas, pick your own sale to take 10% to 40% off regular priced items.

Happy Tuesday friends! We're so excited to bring you another inspiring layout using products from Creations Galore. This week is a double page spread by Alicia Giess.

How stunning is this?! Alicia is using the Wildflower collection by Carta Bella. We instantly fell in love with the hip, urban collection full of of nature elements and bold colors. She fussy cut the feathers and used her finger to round the edges giving them dimension. The other embellishments are from the 12x12 element sticker sheet. Read more about her process on the Carta Bella blog.

Gorgeous project Alicia! Visit our online store to shop the Carta Bella Collection today, and don't forget to join us next Tuesday for another inspiring layout.

North Pole Inspiration

We're back today with lots of inspiration from the We R Memory Keepers Design Team using their North Pole Collection - Now available in our store and online.

The seasons most cherished elements are featured in the North Pole collection, including holly branches, candy canes, snowflakes, caroling, and more. It adds a classic touch of nostalgia to a season worth remembering all year long. In addition, look for seasonal patterns such as holiday plaid and candy cane stripes. North Pole takes a traditional approach to the holiday season by mixing a familiar color palette of green, red, and white, while adding a hint of gingerbread brown and a frosty blue.

Unwrap the North Pole Collection by shopping our online store or visiting us at 3164 Coronet Way in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Merry Christmas!
