Creating Gorgeous Backgrounds With ColorBox Blends

Paper Crafters, we're excited to share a great product new to our store. ColorBox Blends from Eileen Hull is crafter's ink in an easy to use, innovative applicator. They hold 10 times more ink as a stamp pad, and stamps onto fabric, canvas, wood, and more.

There are so many uses for this ink and the applicator keeps your hands clean. Blend colors, distress edges, highlight embossing, and use as an everyday stamp ink.

We created the above card with the blends. To achieve the same look, uncap the applicator, tap the sponge onto the surface, and use a circular motion to distribute the ink evenly. We love how well the colors blend with each other. The pigments create a third color when you blend and overlap them. We used this design on white cardstock for the butterfly and card background but can't wait to try it on canvas and other projects!

In addition to backgrounds, we tapped the blue applicator onto the sentiment and stamped with it. We recommend using the heat tool to set the ink. The large background was dry embossed after completion. To enhance the raised design, lightly glide the applicator over the embossed areas. The butterfly was stamped and cut from a matching stamp and die set from Stampendous.

Hurry into Creations Galore to try these fun inks for yourself and pick up the supplies to create your own handmade greeting.

Creating With Avery Elle Stamps

Valentine's Day stamps have arrived to Creations Galore, and our favorite this season isn't specifically themed for this holiday. Avery Elle's Monsters set came out around Halloween, and we've been reaching for it over and over.

This time we created a cute valentine using Paper Cut's 3x3 pre-folded cards. As if the cards and envelopes weren't cute enough, the monster is making us all say a collective, "AWW." To show all of the various ways you can use this stamp, we wanted to share this chart from Avery Elle. This set can be used for Valentine's Day, Halloween, weddings, birthdays, and for a simple hello. Everyone from kids to adults would love a handmade greeting using this set.

Stop into our store to see the newest arrivals of paper, stamps, and embellishments. New Valentine's, Easter, and Spring themed items are coming in each day. You can find us at 3164 Coronet Way in Green Bay, Wisconsin. For directions, click here.

Quick Tip: Coloring Ribbon + Twine

Copic markers are our favorite coloring medium. We reach for them time and time again. They're vibrant, blend easily, and are refillable. As an alcohol based marker, they stick to non-porous surfaces and are permanent. This makes it easy to color white, clear, or silver embellishments. We use this technique on everything from eyelets to self adhesive pearls.

As you can see above, today we tried it on baker's twine. Simply drag the nib along your ribbon or twine to change its color. This works on satin, grosgrain, and even sheer ribbons. If you're needing to color a large amount, place the twine in a ziplock bag and add a few drops of ink using a Copic refill. The drying time will be longer for the refill technique, whereas the marker technique dries almost instantly.

With this quick tip you can match your ribbon and embellishments to the colored images on your cards. We'd love to see what you create. Stop in with your next project or post an picture to our Facebook Page!

You can find the entire collection of Copic markers, and the fun embellishments, at Creations Galore. We'd love to tell you more about this wonderful product. Click here for more info about our store and to grab directions.

Watercolor With Distress Inks

We're back from all of the wedding and holiday fun, preparing new classes, projects, events, and products for you. That means our desks are overflowing with ideas. Here's a look at one of Nicole's recent projects that you can easily recreate.

We love the look of watercolor; however, quality kits can be pricey. Lucky for us (and you!) Distress Inks have a variety of uses, including watercolor. Recently, Nicole stamped this flower and leaves from a Stampendous set (new arrival!) and heat embossed it with white powder on Northwoods Watercolor Paper.

Next she created a palette by pressing the ink pads directly onto an acrylic block. You could also use a craft sheet or piece of acetate. Today's project used Dusty Concord, Shaded Lilac, Pine Needles, and Peeled Paint Distress Inks. Nicole used a water brush to pick up the inks and add them to the images, drying each layer with a heat tool

Want to try this technique for yourself but don't have all the tools listed above? Join us this week during store business hours and give it a try. Nicole turned her creation into the card below, one of this week's Make N Takes. Our station is ready for you with step by step instructions and all of the tools needed to complete the card. You can learn more by clicking here

We'd love to see what you create with this technique. Stop in with your creations or post a photo on our Facebook page. Have fun experimenting!
